Junya Sakino

Junya Sakino is a director/editor specializing in films and commercials. Born and raised in Japan, but having lived in Los Angeles more than 20 years, Junya has developed a keen eye for storytelling with his unique perspective and diverse cultural background. His first renown work ORIZURU, a historical tragic drama about Hiroshima A-bombing, hit the worldwide film festival circuit by storm. 

 

SAKE-BOMB, his feature directorial debut, premiered to critical acclaim at SXSW in 2013. This culture-clash dramedy satirizes Asian American identity, offering a fresh take on heavy themes of Asian stereotypes and racial identity. Critics praised the film's unique and humorous exploration of cultural identity, as well as its daring approach to tackling important social issues. After winning multiple awards at festivals across the globe, the film was theatrically released in the US and Japan.

With his success as a filmmaker, Junya has also ventured into commercial work. He has collaborated with U.S. Olympic Fencing medalist Miles Chamley-Watson on a campaign for Soulcalibur IV, as well as working with Johnny Knoxville on promotions for Paramount's JACKASS FOREVER. These projects showcase Junya's versatility as a director and his ability to bring his creative vision to a diverse range of mediums. As an editor, he has worked with prestigious brands such as Apple, crafting compelling visual stories for commercial spots and branded content.
